Actually Islam is incredibly varied, there are some groups that other groups would consider it their duty to destroy. Indeed, Muslims have been the main victims of the militant, whatever they choose to call themselves.

This is true. Sorry if my post was misconstrued to insinuate that I think that it lacking variety. There certainly are different groups within Islam with different objectives collectively - Sufi Muslims, for example, are (from what I have read) largely all about peace and prosperity and all that lovely stuff. As for the groups that you're referring to, I believe that's the concept of Takfirism (sp?) - for example, ISIS is currently persecuting fellow Sunni Muslims for not following their strict rules - or just not being 'Sunni' enough...

As for your last sentence, we agree completely.

Well yes, it is odd that people are happy to chuck something out that has had such clear benefits, on the basis that it is impossible to address its shortcomings without ever really trying to.

The time we've been in the EU has shown no such clear benefits.

The benefits are balanced by the disadvantages. In any case, we were lied to to get us to join and they're still busy lying to us to induce us to remain.

I have looked this up and it appears there wasn't a vote for joining in 1973 but there was an in/out referendum in 1975.

I was still too young to vote in the referendum.
