whois shows the registrant for the jjelectectrical etc domain with a contact address of 23 Fairfield. He's a different bloke to the two shown at 49.

I've asked again for a VAT receipt. He says it was emailed yesterday. He says check spam file. I checked & nothing there. Then he says he'll send again. Still nothing. Typical response from a dodgy guy. I'll give him a few days then I'll go to his door and ask for £50 back or I'll report him for VAT fraud. If he's not even qualified I want the lot back.

I'd draw the line at any Gas work, too much to go wrong imho.
We had a fitting charge of £60 when we bought our gas oven which I thought was a bit steep, but they inspected the service socket etc and it was all out of current regs.
They fitted a new supply pipe and socket, did a test at the meter and we got a certificate to say it was all inspected and safe.
Our Gas service man who services the boiler is ex council and knows his stuff, for £50 a year not worth doing yourself imho.
I see it on the motorbikes quite a lot, some frankly shocking and dangerous stuff at times where the owners have had a go. Costs twice as much to put right as it would have done originally!.

I remember years ago when a workmate fitted rear crash bars to his Suzuki. He had no mechanical knowledge and bolted them to the top and bottom suspension mounts, then came in complaining that the bike "Felt funny".

We had the teachers bike in from the local technical college bike mechanics course fair few years back for MOT.
Both wheel spindles loose, front caliper carrier bolts loose!. He'd ridden it in like that..
He blamed his students, we pointed out it was his responsibility to check the bikes roadworthiness before riding it.
Had another bike not long ago where a customer had fitted a 40 amp fuse where a 10 amp should have been, took the petrol tank off to find the wiring loom burnt out underneath it!. If it hadn't of failed MOT on a rear stoplight switch (connector under tank) he'd have carried on regardless.

I`m a Plasterer and on Checktrade, the whole ethos of Checkatrade has gone totally out of the Window. Its all about profit, refrences and feedback can all be forged(not saying all of it is) but iknow some of the local guys play the system a little bit.As for the electrician, with out knowing all the details of what he has checked etc they may be underliying issues with electrical things in your house, if not its a simple case of checking and replacing the correct size trips etc.

I don't believe there ever was an ethos to Checkatrade, although the company behind it might have wanted you to believe there was. At the end of the day if the site / company is earning a lot of money in fees from the trades that are on there there's an immediate conflict of interest. Even under 'What will it cost' in the membership FAQs they avoid telling you what it will cost, which tells you something about the ethos of the site.

Milzy are you working at the moment or anyone in your household.Approach your Union Official and ask for legal help.I did with a very large furniture company many years ago.They fobbed me an d my missus off,until my Union gave me the name of a Solicitors in Manchester,who had heard of said company.I got our money back,they folded easier than the table i bought.
