Really? How did you work that out?
£208.33 + £41.67. VAT is 20% added to the total, not 20% of the total.

I would have thought that the police might have been interested if fraud.
I would doubt they would get involved unless asked by HMRC, but the local building authority might if he's doing work under building control.

I've always seen these cowboys on Rogue traders, I'm shocked by their bare face cheek. Never thought I'd actually come across one. Luckily it's not a vast amount but how many thousands a year is he pocketing? Tax was the only way to get Al Capone. How many more cretins of society are around?

The documents are a false instrument, that is still the correct offence for possession of the actual article, even if you've not committed the act of fraud yet.

It's the act of fraud that is fraud by false rep.

Totally different topic I know but it did make me laugh how upset the Tories were this week with the increase in NI for the self employed. If they had more fraud inspectors to crack down on this type of thing & put a stop/slow down the cash in hand jobs they'd be quids in I suspect, although no figures to back it up.

If they made sure large multi nationals rigorously paid every penny of tax, and didn't allow them to negotiate billions off their bill, then they wouldn't need to screw over sole traders. Can't stand politicians, but i'll end my rant there and reserve it for the politics forum.

If the total bill is £250 the VAT should be £41.67 unless the trader is paying into the HMRC Christmas party fund.

That's perfectly true (just divide the VAT-inclusive total by 6), but I was simply quoting the OP:

It's not just the money, I'm offended by their lies. I at least want the VAT back which is £50.
