After reading this thread I started practising track stands on my MTB in the garden. I don't get much chance to practice on my commute (it is rare that I have to put a foot down at any point).
Today I was out on a Bridleway and while I was waiting for a ped to compute that it was all very well them moving out of my way but when their dog was completely blocking the path I couldn't get past (tempting bunny hop!), I suddenly realised that I was track standing without even thinking about it. Fortunately at that moment the dog moved and I could go, 1/2 second later and my foot would have gone down.
