If you are a baldie too, what do you use on the top of your head to prevent sunburn? I have tried sun-block out of a bottle but that just makes the rest of the hair greasy ... I was thinking about one of those "no-mess" spray-on sun blocks. I don't like wearing a hat, it makes my head super-hot. It's even worse when I wear a helmet - I get stripes on my head!
Yes, #1 clipper cut is the way to go. I find that when it's that short it doesn't feel greasy.
Sunblock - Boots own brand, Soltan. Factor 50. Certainly don't waste your time with anything under SPF 30 on a bald head. I find one application lasts all day on the bike, with a Buff on top from say 11.00 to 14.00 depending where I am.

I don't tan by the way, I go straight from white to beetroot red and back to white again. I am one of those blue-eyed very fair skinned types who burns in the first glimmer of the sun's rays ...
You probably will develop a tan if you are scrupulous with high SPF cover i.e apply it so regularly that you never peel - if you do peel, you haven't used it enough. Anyway, there is nothing clever about getting tanned, it's just the first stage of skin damage.

Weekly clip and suffer the burn after the first ride, then I get the weather-worn look for the rest of the year.

I have hats but they are for keeping the sun out of my eyes more than anything else.

And a Buff soaked in the cool water from a tap / fast-running stream is a very refreshing thing to wear either over the head or around the neck.

Go for a comb over. Who cares what the fashionistas think.

It can be a good look (see pic) :girl:
The Japanese call people who sport this "style" "bar-code men" (think about it)

Just get into the habit of wearing a cap. I had some solar keratoses (hard scaly bumps) frozen off my scalp a few years ago and the specialist warned me to be very careful as I'm fair skinned, so I wear a cap when overseas on business even going from the car to the office; I just keep one in the back pocket of my laptop bag.

If Chap were here, I'm certain he'd recommend a Panama

I rather like the idea of a Kufi - not sure / ignorant of the cross cultural implications though

If you're going bald and worried about losing your youth then the thing you really need is a Porsche.

Buffs are fine when it is not too warm. When you think about it, you effectively have a double layer of material on top of your head which is good when you need to keep warm but not so good when you are trying to avoid overheating.

I have a bandana which is more comfortable in warm weather. In hot weather I usually soak it in cold water. In very hot weather (on the very rare occasions that we get it!) it is always a problem keeping cool.

I made the mistake of going out in hot weather without my bandana on under my helmet once and burned red stripes into my bald patch.

If it was so hot that I couldn't stand to have anything on my head I'd either stay off the bike or use factor 30+ on my scalp.

Exactly the same position. Balding and no chance of a tan. You're not a ginger are you?

I've gone for a No.2 all over and a WCCC Cricket hat. Even though I've only been down to Edgbaston once. You get used to it after a while. Mum thinks it makes me look older. Or younger. Or like some druggy. Or whatever insult she thinks might work best. Wife likes it, and that opinion matters more.

I'm receding, but not slappy on top ;)
When I am, I think I'll get a merkin and glue it on. Well, it'll be a talking point.
