I've ridden fixed for years, nearly always 67" which is a good all-rounder gear. It gets me up (and down) Devon hills and I can stay with the bunch on it.

Hi,

FWIW most new fixies come with a flipflop rear wheel.
Take a look at :

LFGSS is very much up and running, it can be a bit brutal on the forums but hey ho. As for SS or FG try a flip flop rear hub, both types of gearing have their merits and try not to get caught up in self righteousness of riding fixed no brakes, its not cool and can be dangerous to yourself and others. Any old 531 framed bike from ebay will convert just make sure it has horizontal drop-outs and the rear spacing is compatable with the new hub.

Some of us like our Retro bikes to be real ones not replicas, Hands off our old 531 beauties and get a SS/fixed dedicated frame instead. :cursing:
On the other hand if you're planning to keep riding the bike for decades, feel free (cos that's what we'd got planned for em)

Or you could have some fun and go on a puppy murdering spree, new track ends a cold set from 126 to 130 torturing the old frame to within an inch of its life. Get rid of the cable guides and water bottle bosses and a rattle can finish, up to you of course, hehehe

Waits for the pitchfork wielding mob to storm castle windy

There you go a perfect candidate for a SS/FG conversion on ebay £125 or best offer you could build this up for under £200 easy

Or another already converted on LFGSS for £220 ONO and no puppys were hurt during the making of this bike.

But that's what your fixed-wheel traditionally was, the old bike converted for winter use.

...on the other hand I have little interest in the 'fixie' craze, I'll hang on to my untrendy fixed-wheel , thanks.

I personally use more gears in winter, if the suns shining I just enjoy being on a bike whereas if its sleeting it down I work harder just to get there
