If you both have iPhones, use "find my iphone".... Real time tracking.
"Find my friends" is far easier than having to share Apple IDs..

However that requires the tracker and the trackee to have ios devices. Findmyiphone ony requires the trackee to have a ios device, the tracker can check the position on icloud.com, as I already suggested in post 3 of this thread.

Its all mute anyway as the OP wants a android app.

I've got the pro version of runtastic and I presume I might be able to have mr summerdays track me as it often asks as I start to log the journey, of course it could be just an attempt to get me to upgrade to gold. It only cost a couple of pounds to get the pro version, can't be bothered with paying monthly for the gold version.

No, I have Runtastic Pro too and despite the fact it asks if u want live tracking at the start of ur journey, no one can track u!

If you have an Android, linked to a Google account, she can track you.

Google "Android Device Manager" and simply log in as your Google account. This can be done from anywhere with an Internet connection - I believe even an iPhone though I haven't tested that. It then offers live tracking of all your Google affiliated devices, for free.

I'm amazed more people don't know about this - everyone knows about find my iPhone but the android equivalent is often overlooked!

:edit:

The phone will need to have both a GPS signal and a mobile data signal to be able to send and receive data, so if you are cycling or in the sticks where you don't get a signal it won't work.

Glympse is a free android ap that works with I phones too. I used it on last years Surrey ride 100 so my family knew when I'd be coming past. Works on a desktop PC too. But any of the suggested tools will increase the battery drain.

However bluntly they may have put it, I do agree with some of the previous posts. Tech can make people worry more rather than less if you let it.
For every day riding I'd personally let her know when you think you will return and text if you end up in the pub.

I'd never heard of this before, and I've managed to log in, but being a luddite I don't quite know what I'm doing. So it automatically tried to locate a phone, my old one, which I know is switched off in the bottom of a pannier with an old SIM card in it. So it didn't find it.

So my questions are, it looks very geared up for finding your own phone, but since you could remotely erase the data (I think), why would you let others track your phone? And how do I change the information to look for my current phone?

Oh, practically nothing - it only sends back a location when a user requests it, it doesn't constantly update. If your other half constantly sits there refreshing it may use a bit (and even then almost certainly an insignificant amount for most contact phone deals) but if she just his the refresh every now and then it will be almost nothing :-)

Where it says the name of the phone (that would be the model number of you haven't set names) you should be able to click and change the device to any of your other Google affiliated devices. It makes it easier when you rename your devices - bit don't all me how to do that, I can't remember!

As for the remotely staying your data, yes you can - that's why you should only ever give the password to someone you trust not to do that, such as a significant other, or the police if your phone has just been stolen!
