For years I thought a raleigh was a kind of heron, because the earlier badges always said "THE RALEIGH".

Sorry to be so uncool but I bought my first proper mountain bike, a 1992 Specialized Rockhopper, because I thought the brand sounded so good. I still like their bikes even though the cognoscenti deride them as "the Tesco of bike-makers".

White. It sounds much sexier and more successful in Italian. Whyte is bit more risqué.
A good bicycle brand name really needs to have good bikes or it starts to sounds like Claude Butler, Falcon,
And what is wrong with Claude Butler ? I love mine. At the end of the day when I pass someone going in the opposite direction the last thing I look at is the brand of their cycle. I will admit perhaps that they don`t have the panache of other makes and don`t make the Tour de France but when it comes down to reliability my 2010 model has been brilliant,15000 miles +.

My old Motobecane 15 special was always called my velocipede because is was getting on a bit. Actually I`d go with Velocipede if it had nice graphics and a cool paint job like some of the new Renault and Mazda cars, they just shine.

"Il Pompino" and "Inbred" are among the worst. Quite deliberately.

I loved my BSA Bullet

Specialised is my favourite but if I could choose a name?
Freedom bikes would fit the bill

Claude Butler used to be a premium brand for lightweight cycles. My LBS had a display CB that was perhaps the finest classic lightweight frame I have ever seen. Now the named is stickered onto mid/low end bikes in typical bike industry fashion, degrading a once hallowed brand.

I'd like a name that hints towards an adventure or a noble quest... probably something like Voyager, or Valiant. Maybe both together for a model name! I imagine it having green paintwork, tan leather bar tape, and a matching saddle and tool roll.

I think Trek is the best existing name for bikes, though with a caveat - It suits the tourers and MTBs but maybe not the road bikes.

Surely creating a bike brand is a job for S'ralan the cyclist and his band of clueless airhead apprentices?

I have always had a soft spot for those multi use names that bring reassurance to pensioners in the shire counties whatever the product:
Windsor
Kensington
Oxford
