Maybe they are, but they were the pioneer mass-produced brand of mountain bikes....even though the cognoscenti deride them as "the Tesco of bike-makers.
And what is wrong with Claude Butler ? I love mine. At the end of the day when I pass someone going in the opposite direction the last thing I look at is the brand of their cycle. I will admit perhaps that they don`t have the panache of other makes and don`t make the Tour de France but when it comes down to reliability my 2010 model has been brilliant,15000 miles +.White. It sounds much sexier and more successful in Italian. Whyte is bit more risqué.
A good bicycle brand name really needs to have good bikes or it starts to sounds like Claude Butler, Falcon,

Yep. I always thought that the Roberts D.O.G.S.B.O.L.L.O.C.K.S was just crass, but the worst brand name of all has to be the BMX specialist 'Stolen'. I see them come up for sale occasionally and just think, who the fark is going to buy that?"Il Pompino" and "Inbred" are among the worst. Quite deliberately.
