Haven't read whole thread, but seems to be a bit like the bassist thread where people are citing the drummer of their favorite band 😄

I suppose, for me, I'd be looking for distinctive sounds. Stewart Copeland is right up there...you can tell its him straight away. Also Jojo Mayer, Vinnie Colaiuta (although he showboats far too much), Steve Gadd in his day, Gavin Harrison for his precision., Trilok Gurtu for originality. People like Lenny White, Tony Williams etc. Weckl has a distinctive sound, although he did go pure mulleted cheese in the 80s which is unforgiveable.

Then there are current people like Richard Spaven, Nate Smith and my favorite Yussef Dayes

or, if you want an old Stanley tune with Pino's son on bass:

Godsmack's Shannon Larkin, if just for his style, energy and power

Shannon Larkin is a human metronome. It always had me thinking when I was touring that the American drummers invariably liked that taut snap style tuning whilst the English drummers had that lazy rolling tuning style. Whitesnake (before the American makeover) are a good example. Pre hairdos great rocky bluesy style of playing then post hairdos, sharp snap tuned within an inch of splitting the skins.

1962, at the Cavern, I went to see Faron's Flamingos.
Part way through the group walked off stage and left the drummer to do a solo. I was gobsmacked.... he was amazing.
I don't recall his name but I do know he went onto join some top groups

Following the demise of Faron and The Flamingos, Trevor Morais became one of the top session drummers in England, working with Elkie Brooks and David Essex. Nicky Crouch worked with The Mojos and eventually became a computer programmer. Paddy Chambers went with Faron to The Big Three and then formed Paddy, Klaus and Gibson.

funnily enough the original band was formed by members of a cycle club

Yes.....I read about the cycling connection.
I love reading about the Liverpool groups and who went onto which groups. eg the Mojos were great
