I was going to say that the absence of a picture proved my contention that Volvo's never had style when the picture (re)appeared. Not that I think it has style.

In any case, it's hard to tell if a car has style when its headlights are blinding you.

{edit, oh look, its disappeared again.}

Years before daylight running lights!!
I found a nice pic that should now open.

Ahh Paris, the summer of 63, a Citroen DS, Presiden De Gaulle, a Chatellerault 24/29 machine gun with 140 rounds of 7.62. I remember it well....
Day of the Jackal. More exciting than Le Joli Mai, for sure.

I always had a liking for the lower rent ferrari, the Fiat Coupe

I've owned many VW golfs too and still think there is something special about a nice example mark 1.

I had three of the naturally aspirated ones, I'd love another mint one, but most are now rotten and leggy beyond belief. Still see them on the road and make me smile a lot

I had a mk 5 golf gti, fun, until some f@ckers nicked it off my drive in the middle of the night!

I've now got a Fabia VRS estate, great fun and very practical cyclist motor

I'd love a Porsche 356 speedster, loved them since top gun  ridiculous money now, so maybe a replica one day when I have a garage

There's something really cool about the French lifestyle of this era.

Alain Delon strolling down the banks of the Seine in the summer, smoking 80 Gitanes a day, several bottles of red and shagging every French speaking star aged over 16 from Paris to Marseille and back again.

Back to his flat overlooking the Eiffell Tower to rustle up a fruits de mer, coq au vin & creme brûlée for the wife, all against a backdrop of a Serge Gainsbourg soundtrack.

We had bread strikes, power cuts and Tyne Brand curry in a can. And Austin Allegros.
Brilliant!

Can't agree with you there. VW beetle, Fiat 500, sell because of the retro looks, and most companies try to keep some element of previous models looks in their new designs. Most modern cars are samey to me, a result of computer design, crash regulations and wind tunnels to improve fuel consumption.

Oh, forgot to add Porsche to that list too.

Alfa (and Citroen) do seem to try and be different 8C/4C spider and Brera I'd agree with but Mito and Guilitta not so much.
And I'm biased as I've got a bit of an Alfa problem

Always had you down as an Alfa male ....

There used to be a yellow Prowler (think that's what it's called) around here

My barbers husband had a stretch Cruiser for a while, as part of his Limousine business)
(some compare it to the Morris Minor, in body shape, but, particularly with regard to the front wings/doors)

Some good contenders here.
I am not sure but at least these need to be in contention-

When Volvos had style.

XK8 now overlooked but just did it all right (before they ruined it with facelift model).

I agree, on the XK8/XKR
Ours always seemed to get admiring looks
It was quite rapid too
'Book figures' 30-70 (kickdown & 'Sport-mode') was under 4 seconds, thus less time on the wrong side of the road, & acceleration when required to get out of trouble
More torque by 1600RPM, than the XK8 developed at peak

Volvos?
For years, I wanted a B121/122/123
This was reinforced by the TV series 'The House Detectives', when they used a saloon to visit the various houses

However, I'm much, much prefer an estate
That said, I take it some of you have seen pictures/YouTube footage of Guy Martins mental Amazon?

Running lights are one thing, **$@@£%*^ headlights in town quite another.
DRLs are a nightmare
On the overwhelming majority of cars, they tail-lights don't illuminate with them
So, when it's getting dark, they're lots of Numpties, who are driving about with no rear lighting
As far as they're concerned, they can see a reflection from the vehicle in front , c/o DRL, ergo; the lights are on
(& part of that issue, is that again, a fair few cars instruments are permanently lit)

My old Golf Mk1 looked good from every angle. For mark2 and later models, they took a crisp, clean Italian classic body and added some lard.

Absolutely 100% agree and wish I had never sold mine. The MK1 Scirocco was even better looking. VW stylists seem to have lost the plot, although the Golf and Scirocco weren't styled by Volkswagen which may explain why they looked nice

I'd agree there are times when a little more power is needed - joining fast busy roads from a slipway or from a lay-by can be difficult. But otherwise needing 'to get out of trouble' says to me a lack of anticipation in the first place.
With overtaking, the XK8 performance enables you to utilise smaller gaps in oncoming traffic, with less power it doesn't have to be any more hazardous, you just need bigger gaps and more patience and anticipation to wait for them. The patience bit seems sadly lacking sometimes.
