Forum of my cycling club sees shot of about 10% of the cycling stuff I've sold. The rest has gone on fleabay.

Sadly eBay still gets you the biggest audience IMO

Fees aside though it's the scams you need to watch for

Scams are another thing that worries me. I thought I read somewhere about goods being sent, the buyers making up stories and PayPal refunding them.

'Cycling buy, swap and sell' on Facebook. I wasn't convinced at first, but it has around 10,000 members and I've sold everything I've put on within a couple of days, usually within a few hours.

I've only sold on eBay, never any success anywhere else apart from a £60 cheapie sold on Gumtree

You'll get a bigger audience and a greater price on eBay if what you are selling is in demand (modern roadie, hybrid), enough more to cover the fees. Forget paypal, deposit only, cash on collection. Make a receipt, two copies signed by you and buyer

You can put your bike advert up on all of these and only accept cash in hand on collection.

Facebook cycling groups seems to be a good shout though. Everything apart from the unwanted seems to sell too quickly.

SCAM tip
don't accept a PayPal payment - and then a Collection in person

the buyer will say he never got it
and with all the signed receipts in the world - PayPal will STILL refund him the money
