If it's just during the day, and no need for multiple days, then a compact 5,000mah will suffice
I have an Anker Version of this (now discontinued by Anker)

It's compact enough to be able to strap under the bars and have it plugged into your GPS - I have a MK1 Edge Explore that will do 5 hours navigating, but not 8, so have used this bike packing where I can recharge at night. If you want multiple day power, but don't need 'on the go' charge, then a bigger 20,000 will give 3-4 smart phone charges.
The GPS doesn't take much to charge and as @Ming the Merciless says, it will charge a GPS for a number of days as these have much smaller batteries (sub 1,000mah) hence why a dedicated GPS is better for navigating than a smart phone due to power requirements.
