Not a police car, but I knew a bloke years ago who had a 3.0l crappy. It went like the clappers and cornered like it was on rails.

Possibly the greatest police car ever. I drove one in the early 90s and nothing after that ever came close... what power, and what space and comfort. They drove like a dream on shouts with rear wheel drive, a 3 litre 24v engine and a sport gearbox.
Even now, in the course of my employment, I talk to Traffic Police, who still have great fondness for the Senator

Their only regret is that an estate derivative was never available, for everything that that had to be to carried

No description but i'd say it's a 1971 Triumph 2000.

I'd say it's a jam sandwich.

edit... can't find any online evidence but in the mid-late 90s, they had cardboard police cars on the M6... full size 2D range rovers which from a distance, looked like a cardboard cut out.

When you enlarge the picture and stare at it, yes you can see it says 2500

Looks more like the 2.5 Pi to me,

No, definitely a 2000. As others have pointed out, it says so on the back(!) and there's this too:

A few years ago, when they first appeared in this country, 'West Yorkshire Traffic', had a Vauxhall Monaro on test
It was the big coupe, not the later saloon

The testing Officers loved it!, a big, fast, stable car - very much in the vein of a faster, more powerful Senator
When it was started up, at the workshops, it emptied the place, as staff came to see what was producing this hell of a noise

Sadly, the Bean Counters weren't swayed by it, even though, running costs can't have been that different to a big B*W of the day
It was more, at that point, the spares situation

I was told once, by an acquaintance on traffic, who I see at work, that the later saloon was tested too, but that it was still deemed too 'left-field'
(in Aus, it's also available, as an estate, & a 'ute')

There was one, not too far from me, it belonged to a neighbour of one of my running club buddies
I'm led to believe that a mixture of theft attempts, & scaring himself led to the sale of it about 2 years ago

In between here and there
Those Cosworths were seriously quick. I used to know a bloke who worked on the police helicopter years ago. He told me a tale about tailing a stolen Cosworth along the motorway one night, and the car was easily outstripping the helicopter. Not surprising as the Cosworth was capable of 150+ mph and the helicopter about 110. The only way they managed to keep it in their sights was that the helicopter could cut straight across a couple of long sweeping bends in the motorway whereas the car had to go round their full length, but even then they struggled to keep up. He said he felt quite silly until the car was driven off the motorway into the built up area of the city and there was nowhere the car could get near its top speed.
There was a car dealer next door to me who had 5 stored and personal RS cars - As an investment RS Cosworth Sierra and Escorts one had only 4000 miles! Poor sod got divorced and had to flog them off about 5 years ago, sold for half the value they are now. I just remember lusting after them as an 18 year old and how many were getting stolen. They were genuine supercars for not a lot more than a sporty saloon.

Having said that my cars were Opel Manta GTE/Astra GSi & GTE and I had loads of those stolen. One twice within a week!
