Dont think anyone has mentioned Millennium. Some of it did make it to UK tv, but I saw it in same manner as the OP, on a borrowed box-set
I did enjoy The X-files for a few series, but it ran out of legs. It also may have had something to do with my future wife being a big fan and an excuse to share a sofa with her

I just realized I watched way too many tv series in their entirety (to date) last winter, except for Sopranos and Deadwood I watched all the others then. No wonder I gained weight and didn't do any riding.

There is a lot of dross, yes, but they are also capable of producing some great things every so often. I most certainly wouldn't simply write off an entire country's output based on the most prominent things.

So would I, although I preferred Borgen - that is my 2nd favourite

The Wire is my number 1 by a mile for me though.
