best way in

Planning a run to edinburgh pretty soon and i am looking for a good way in coming from glasgow, i dont fancy route 75 or the sustrans route or which ever it is as i am looking to come along the A8 as far as i can go then maybe veer off somewhere near to edinburgh, i know the A8 is a busy road but this is the staightest and quickest way for me, any suggestions welcome.

The last time I did it I came by Linlithgow, Winchburh and Kirkliston but that was a while ago and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a better route; gavintc does it a fair bit I believe, you could ask him.
