I went round Richmond park after work on my £500 road bike . It made me realize just how nice my high end carbon bikes are !

Meindl Burma Pro walking boots. They cost more than £150, but I've trecked in them all round the world, including the Himalaya, Alps, Southern Alps, Patagonia, Andes, and, err, Scotland. They're now over ten years old, show no sign of wearing out, and are as comfortable as when I bought them.

When I was younger and poorer, I used to skip on quality tools just to get the job done. Now I'm older, I'll go for a high quality tool almost anytime the job that requires the tool needs doing more than 3 times..... I've also found buying used quality tools can be just as cheap as cheap new lower quality tools.
Good tools are fantastic. I have imperial spanners from my grandad, who was a traction engine mechanic, and they're as good as new. I use a vice which was made in Coventry in 1922 according to the stamp, and it's an absolute pleasure.

It'll be going long after I'm gone as well.
sometimes a cheap tool is hopeless even for a single use.

Regarding power tools, I think it is worth getting top quality, even at Festool prices, for tools you use continuously such as sanders. Even an amateur will use a sander for hours at a stretch so the lack of vibration, comfort, dust extraction and general niceness are appreciated. If I'm drilling holes in the wall, then maybe 10 minutes then put it away. You still want something decent, but maybe not top pro grade, though I do like nice kit all the same.

A Festool circular saw is in a league of its own. Wonderful to use.

I have one - the track saw. It is indeed absolutely brilliant. I have done jobs that I simply could not have done otherwise. A tablesaw is impractical for most of us but the tracksaw does pretty much the same job in many cases
