My biggest cycling disapointment is that despite almost 20 years of regular cycling, I haven't got thighs like Beyonce's.
Has Beyonce got big thighs or slender thighs?

Failing my cycling preficiency test at the tender age of 10. I was the only one who regularly cycled to my primary school, and to top it all I wasn't allowed a cool BMX but had a Dawes kids road type bike (which I loved). Even at that age I saw myself as a 'proper cyclist'.

I thought I would breeze the test, and confidently sat in the classroom afterwards awaiting my name to be called out and receive my certificate.

Sadly, I did not check or signal upon pulling away after my emergency stop. My name was read out in the fail list.

I can still vividly remember that feeling of rejection and shame, and could show you within a meter where the transgression occurred...as I still cycle past it on a regular basis.
My son had a very similar experience very recently at his primary school leavers presentation evening. Every child gets an award for something. When they did best sports people, he didn't get an award, despite being the most prolific sport person in the school who's collected them many trophies and medals in many different disciplines. He was absolutely heartbroken (as was I sat in the audience sat watching him sob being consoled by his mate). It actually ruined his last day at primary school!

They're quite big, but well formed, toned and smooth, whereas mine are more like soft downy pillows - handy for tired men to rest their heads, but doesn't look good in a short skirt/shorts situation.

Ah!

My thighs are getting more like Beyonce's so perhaps not much good for tired women (or men!) to rest a head on, but I don't often get asked to provide head support these days anyway ...

Couldn't cycle for about 3 weeks due to work, holidays etc. Excitedly got back on the bike and found that all the fitness gains i had made over the last 6 months have completely gone

I can't think of any disappointments right now, but one of my favourite cycling moments was... getting a beautiful gold Moulton Mini for my birthday at the age of eight, my uncle having won some money on the horses. I loved it and rode it for years before eventually selling it to a neighbour's son who'd obviously been eyeing it up for a while. I guess the kids in my neck of the woods weren't as tough as the kids in the OP's area.

I seem to remember it costing £25 at the time, which is equivalent to about £380 today.

My biggest cycling disappointment was going to the school bike sheds after school finished, and discovering that my bike had been stolen!

It was 20 years before I bought another bike so I missed 2 whole decades of cycling.

In the mid-90s I was clicking on well with a Saracen mountain bike - until it was stolen.

I replaced it with a Schwinn, but the theft all but put me off cycling until I bought the Brompton in 2010.

So my biggest cycling disappointment is allowing a criminal to deprive me of 15 years' riding.

It didn't bother me as much at the time as it does now! I got the insurance money and bought my first stereo system with it and was more interested in music at the time than doing long bike rides.

Looking back though ... if I had really got into cycling in my teens, I think it would have changed the course of my life. I would have travelled more, met more like-minded people, and been healthier.

My bike was stolen by the n'er do well son of my neighbours at the time - caused a bit of tension as you may imagine.

I thought if I was seen on the new bike he would only do the same again, so I decided to stop cycling for a few weeks, which turned into months, which turned into - you know the drill.

Health is a big regret, one can never be sure but it is overwhelming likely I would have been much healthier had I continued cycling.

Nothing, it has been perfect except...

Some small Raleigh kids bike, a Tomahawk, a couple of Grifters, and Olympus 5 speed racer and then a Pug 10 speed. Passed the cycling proficiency 1st time back in 1979. A perfect cycling childhood the only blip being coming off at high speed and breaking my collar bone on day 1 of my last ever school summer holiday.

I've still got the Pug, well I re-bought one after getting rid of my original one. I deeply regret that. Also now have a modern hybrid which is ok but would like to get a modern road bike.

The only thing stopping me getting a modern road bike is the lack of these...

When, why and how did the duel lever brake setup ever get resigned to obscurity. I love them.
