If he's got kids you could take one of them as a bargaining chip.
This comment was a lot more worrying paired with your photo ;)

Good luck. Make sure you get all of it back and no parts are missing or damaged. Do point out any damage or missing parts, and photograph it there before leaving as evidence, if needed, for a claim.

Interesting news CycleChatters!

He'd sent OH a text earlier to say come and pick it up now. OH has gone away for a few days, so relayed this information to me.

I've just been round to get it, was a bit peeved to see said bike sitting unattended and unsecured in garden. Knocked on door, no answer, though I suspect they were in.

So, I feeling like a thief in the night I took posession of bike and came home!

Work had been done, and bike seems to be in same condition we left it there in. Was wondering if he'd have the cheek to charge the full £40 he'd origionally quoted, so now I guess we sit and wait to see if he tries to charge us. At least the boots on the other foot now!

Bizarre!

Very bizarre, he might be a member here and got the message ;) .

If it were me, I'd just move on ... if passing in the street I would say hello and act like it never happened; I wouldn't enter into any discussions about the issue any more than asking for paperwork if brought up by the other party. If this did happen and then an invoice did arrive as a follow up (which I very much doubt), then we'll worry about that then; generally though, don't think of him as any different than dealing with a company like Amazon et al, expect reasonableness, proof of works and parts etc. then you can judge whether any payment is ethically suitable (edit: or not, which there's little point in discussing here) ... life is too short to get overly worked up over material possessions and make these sort of things personal.

Well done by the way!

I certainly shan't be mentioning it!

So glad you got your bike back. I had a similar thing with a horse that I had out on loan. It took 2 years to get him back from the people who he had been loaned too. I had a contract and everything detailing when the loan ended, how and where he was to be kept. Horse was freeze marked and everything. Total nightmare.

I wonder why this chap was hanging on to your bike though, seems very odd. Are you sure its the same bike? Not a doppleganger that he was forced to buy to replace yours?
