Don't think he'll help much, he's the Father Dougal of the Labrador world!

You've hung him and photoshopped the rope out, appalling treatment!

No, in fact I just looked it his website up and its disappeared.

That's another things which helps to get the police involved as it begins to point towards a theft. As classic said, be quick! Did I understand correctly that he's done work for you before? If so, I'd give him a chance to return it - if not, this is the point I'd be calling.

I'd suggest to the officers that turned up that it 'may be a misunderstanding', and if he returns the bike when asked by them it can be chalked up to this, making it more likely for him to return it before he gets into trouble, and more likely for the police to go straight round as they may be able to sort it there and then.

You can't ride the bike away, yet, then.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
I'd agree that he's either broken it or sold it.

You must go round and confirm - sending a Recorded Delivery letter first if needed confirming day and time but I'd go and ask first, with the Recorded Delivery letter sent as a 2nd option.

He's fobbing you off and 6 months is a joke.

Also, if needed add +1 to the number of 'visitors' he could get as I'm near-ish

I would go round his house and knock on the door and say, I have come to collect my bike, please return it, now. If he refuses, call the police (not on 999) and ask them to attend the scene. Trading standards, solicitors etc sounds like a mighty waste of time and effort.

If you don't get your bike send him an invoice for cost of replacement and other costs incurred.

If he doesn't pay report to Trading Standards, issue claim in Small Claims Court, report him to local Council for running a business in a residential basement when he should be paying business rates or notified a change of use of the property, contact HMRC as he is likely to be working cash in hand, Customs and Excise for avoiding the payment of VAT, police to report a theft. If this fails I know a bloke called Big Dave.
