You cant just leave someones bike out! WTf?! Tell him youre very pissed off that you went round at the agreed time and there was noone there. Tell him that youve had enough of his shenanegans, that you want your bike back immediately and if he doesnt deliver it within 24 hours youre going to the polis!

I'd reply asking for a bill in writing, detailing all work done over the period of 6 months. Also, noting that the bike was left outside in an unsecure state.

Bill him for any of your time that was wasted, by the full hour, not part. Also bill him for any journey by public transport/car when you would have used your bike instead from, lets say, October onward.

I'd say if the works been done to a reasonable standard, pay him, minus 10% for the unreasonable wait - however do request an invoice and receipt for tax purposes.* Also make it clear how unhappy you are about your bike being left insecure, outside. Then leave it at that, but spread the word to save others from the same fate!

* This is presuming its a relatively small amount. If you are talking about a three figure bill, I wouldn't pay that much due to the level of dissatisfaction.

I think thats why all the frenzied calls to OH were about yesterday evening. Presume he thought someone had nicked it.

Yes, he's done the work.
Apparently what happened was, OH had needed to replace pedals. When he came to do it he couldn't shift one of the pedals off the crank. He took bike to man round corner because he thought he needed a ?crank spanner/lever (sorry if my teminology is all wrong.)
It was then discovered that the cranks were kaput. This is where all the delay over lost/wrong/returned etc parts began.
The pedals are clearly new, not sure about the cranks. I don't want to pay him til OH comes home to give the bike the once over, but he's sick of the whole proceedings and has instructed me to pay, just to bring an end to it all!

I reckon that this man simply lacks the gift of adult conversation......it is wrong that you waited so long, and wrong that he left the bike out in the front garden, and I'd give it a good going over before parting with the dosh, but, heaven knows, we've all got ourselves in a tangle over something or other at some time in our lives........
