Does any LBS live up to their promises?

I took my bike in on a Saturday. Guy asked if wanted it back the same day. Said no as I was going away for the day.and wouldn't be back till late. Popped in to collect it on Monday. Too busy, not looked at it yet, come back Tuesday.

There's 3 shops within 5 minutes of me; I don't like any of them. All local shops for local people.

Probably have been cheaper and easier to buy a cassette tool and chain wrench and DIY, and you would have had the tools for next time:thumbsup:

Last week the shaver socket in our bathroom stopped buzzing and wouldn't charge the toothbrush or razor.

Some people would call out an electrician, wait several days then pay a £60 callout charge. I nipped to the shops, bought a new socket and had it fitted ten minutes after that - cost: £21, inconvenience: zero.

Learn to do it yourself.

Cassette tool, chain wrench, vice? Instructions? Fear of it falling off at 30 mph

I think I'd go to an lbs too, keep them in business for when I need them

Vice???

And if there's one thing a cassette can't do, it's fall off.

It's shameful if you can't mend, fettle your own bike. It's not exactly rocket science.

There are lots of bike maintenance courses and good books to help you.

Why is it shameful? Maybe I have other things to do with my time!

Just because my priorities are different from yours doesn't make it shameful, maybe it's shameful you don't know how to use a camera as well as me, or can't sail and fettle a yacht the same way I can

I can do anything in a house as I work in construction and have built houses from the ground up  but give me a bike and tell me to replace the cassette and I'm stumped + the guys a Friend of mine so I get mates rates ;) I don't have spare time for courses as I have to go to college as well as work full time
