New reports on my club group of a couple more attempts on Tuesday evening around New Addington area in the lanes.

I've been riding solo a bit more recently, but this does make me nervous as I can't see how the police deal with this

That's where my planned route for Saturday goes. Hopefully I'll be through there before the scrotes wake up.

Also seen on X, video of attempted bike hijacking recently in Brasted and Sundridge.

Hmmm. Oddly enough I changed my planned route last night. The previous route went through Brasted. The new route goes past Addington.

I live in the US now and I have to say we never hear about this kind of criminal activity. Why just in Britain?
I suppose the lack of physical violence on America's streets is because most Americans carry personal guns and are allowed by the law to use them. At a party a few weeks ago an elderly woman stated quite openly that she and her husband were licensed 'to carry' and other people at the event all nodded.
It would make any casual criminal think before attempting a street robbery.

Well from what we hear, and from official statistics, violent crime is FAR more common in the US than it is here in the UK.

The only place I have heard of this type of activity here in the UK is on this forum, TBH. It happens, but is rare.

I am glad to hear it, I hope that is true.

I suspect it's because bicycles are more common in Britain, therefore there's a larger market for stolen bicycles and parts. Or perhaps British thieves are more industrious than American ones.

That depends on what state you live in. The laws vary rather dramatically from state to state.
