My work runs the scheme from June to July, it's a short period.

It's a toss up between a road bike or a mtb. I currently ride a ridged hybrid bike to get me to work on the roads only. If I get a road bike I will use my hybrid on trails to get to work instead of roads, and use the road bike for my local bike club rides.

If I get a mtb bike I will use that on trails to get to work in the summer. However when it comes to winter nights I don't know if I will be that confident riding along there as opposed to road riding.

Anyone going to do the scheme this year? And what bike/s take your interest?

I'm looking to get a road or mtb, bike maybe a Cube or a Trek. I can't decide.

If it's a road bike. Buy one that you like and it fits you properly.
You'll soon be flying along!

Clue's in the name (not always true, but true in this case) - riding on road = road bike; riding on mountains - mountain bike: simples!

Tongue in check reply: yes, but still basically true. And riding on tracks / canal paths and the like can be done perfectly happily on a road-oriented bike if you don't go totally silly on flimsy wheels etc, and don't sit like a sack of potatoes over bumps.

Clue is also in the name 'Bike to Work Scheme' - if you're not going to use the road bike to ride to work .... ;)
