Why is it that if you buy an expensive bike or clothing your accused of being a millionaire playboy or team sky rider.

i have a mortgage and bills to pay just like everybody else, but just because i decide to spend my surplus cash on bikes and clothing, instead of on alcohol and clubbing, it doesn't make me some kind of rich playboy.

If someone ask's for an opinion on what type of bike, winter clothing, jersey, gloves etc etc i have as much right as anyone else on this forum to give my opinion based on what i have worn and am wearing, it doesn't make me any different from anyone else that rides a bike, whether it be for pleasure, recreation, fitness or competition

Rant Over

If anybody is saying that its because they are jealous; I certainly am; Enjoy and ignore

I think you may find this is being said in jest

Mine was and I apologise for that if misconstrued!

We all have the right to ride and wear what we want. I will defend these rights to the last drop of my blood.

Of course, with rights come responsibilities. Foremost among these is the responsibility not to ride around on a carbon missile, wearing matching team kit.

It is a known fact that anyone doing so is delusional and probably certifiable. And slow. And smelly. And their opinion on cycling matters is worthless.

But we all have the right to ride what we want and wear what we want. I will defend that right.

Inverse snobbery also known as paupers pride!

I have nice bikes, but a lot of money is something that I do not have! I just have priorities, those priorities do not feature the same things as others priorities!

You absolutely have the right to spend your hard earned cash on whatever you want, and anyone who tells you otherwise is a knobber.

Equally, advising someone who has asked where they can get cheap clothing and who complains that they have seen jackets for sale which cost more than their bike that they should buy a Rapha jacket might be a bit knobberish as well...

My apologies then, but maybe others read it the way I did and that was the trigger for the comments?

the comments have been coming thick and fast over the past few months to various members of this forum, not just to me.

As you can see by my post in winter gear it was in response to vicksters post, that's why its quoted within my post

I've had it a few times as well. I wear Rapha. I love wearing Rapha. I'm not rich, I drive a lorry for Royal Mail. So when I spend £240 on a winter jacket it is not spent lightly and without serious thought. To me it's money well spent. Last winter I wasn't cold or wet while out on the bike once, so to me it was worth every penny. And because the Aldi army think they know better and that their £5.99 is just as good I have also not bothered responding to threads on gear (obviously I wouldn't on threads asking for cheap gear) but a few times I have typed out a post and thought "whats the point" and deleted it.

As long as it is your money FLAUNT it.

I am writing this from a holiday villa in Santorini in Greece.

Because I can afford to. My Brand new Koga World Traveller 29 is tucked up safe at home in Denmark.

I left School with 1 O level ...English language...believe it or not. But worked hard to earn money as I am sure Jowwy did.

Who just happens to ride a Sabbath titanium..........the capatalist pig ;0)

Joking aside, expensive is not always best, it quite often just the name. I wear a set of military overmitts when it rains. They keep my hands warm and very dry in all weather and cost me £6 on e Bay. My very expensive all weather crap gloves are in the loft somewhere.

Read all the reviews is my tip.

Too many financial advisors not enough cyclists on here at times

As I mentioned before, my total expenditure in the past few months has now exceeded £2500 of sport stuff. Might seem like a lot, but for someone like myself with disposable income (I own my house outright) who doesn't drink/smoke/do drugs/car used for daily commute and transport to races

The financial advisors on here would no doubt be in the "OMG too expensive" camp - so to hell with you. The value I place in my purchases far exceeds the physical cost. Don't tell me how to spend my money, ironically - if I required a financial advisor I'd have to pay you

ps: I've just booked a weeks club training camp in Majorca onboard a Cannondale Supersix Evo

I'm going to enjoy my money whilst I can.
