Has anybody had any experience of using Calmac ferries? I have a trip in mind that I would love to do sometime and that is to visit the Outer Hebrides, I have heard that the beaches there are stunning and have surf to rival more exotic places on this planet.

Many times. The Isle of Tiree seems to be the most popular with the surfers, but it is one of the Inner Hebrides.
