Buzzard would be my guess in Nottingham area.
Very common
Been here 40 years & rarely seen any birds of prey but they do seem to be more common over the last 5 years, awesome to see.

Red kite would be my vote

No sorry I recognise those

Red Kites are an every day sighting now, even have a pair in the trees at work.

The re-introduction a few years ago has been a great success.
You often hear birds of prey long before seeing them.

Sadly most are still being killed by farmers ect to supposedly protect their stock

Started young, and still going.
Location
Barnet,
Red Kites are pretty huge.
That is a distinct possibility.

Buzzards have distinctive fingers at the wing tips

It sounds like a Buzzard.
I did a bit of a research project into some in my area many years ago. The bird books state that they are a sedentary bird! Nailed to a perch more like! They can sit motionless for hours!
They tend to prefer sitting in oak trees around here and are quite noticeable perched on the end of a branch in the winter. In the spring and summer they are harder to spot because they merge with the foliage.
It is nice to hear them calling out as they soar way up on sunny days.
