I think the big difference between Ken is that he is power mad, when Boris is a nutter, but knows it and surrounds himself with clever people who he listens to.

Even tho Boris is a cyclist I’m not sure he’s the right person, what about the other candidates?

ken is a muppet because the papers vilify anything he does, somehow still elected twice despite the govt's best efforts to prevent him getting in

Boris Johnson has done some very stupid things, I forget them now but he has

What is it with London that it seems set to always elect a muppet?

As I 've said before, you will not find that this is the view of other cities outside London. London has really cemented its position as one of the Top 3 global cities under Ken, and many other cities would love to have someone like him running the show...

No, Ken is a muppet because he looks and acts like one. He's got the same 'look at me!' style as a muppet, he's got the same attention grabbing style, and like any good cast member on the muppet show he tends to open his gob before he thinks.

Boris Johnson has done some very stupid things, I forget them now but he has

He's merely a different variety of muppet. Its like comparing Gonzo the Great with the Swedish Chef.

Whats your point? That the Muppet Show wasn't great television exemplifying what people like in politicians, and people don't pick muppets when they're given individuals rather than policy platforms backed by parties to vote for?

sounds like silly electioneering to me, he's not all bad but he can be a serious arse sometimes
Thus he seems eminently suitable for the role, frankly I'd rather have politicians who are good old fashioned buffoons than those dangerous politicians who really think they can make a difference.
Boris is excellent value.

I think my point was pretty clear: he's very well-respected throughout the world. I think however you're taking the muppet show analogy at little beyond the realms of comprehension anyway!

You also seem to forget that Ken was first elected as Mayor as an independent on a non-party platform. He then rejoined the Labour Party when they realised they couldn't win against him and was able to continue to pursue his agenda, but have greater co-operation from Labour members of the Assembly.

I cringe everytime I see and hear him on the TV, but to get in twice I guess he must have pleased some people or were the alternatives that bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boris on a cycilng issue? He would have us all hugging the kerb "like the ships of ancient Greece used to navigate the oceans around the coastline". Leave it out! Boris for Mayor....Heaven help us all!
He'd cut back affordable housing projects to the bone if not eliminate them completely, restricting them to the east of town like the good old days when the workers lived in the east and the gentry to the west due to the prevailing wind in London.
He would kill off anything positive and take London back to the old Horace Cutler days. No!
Having met Bozza a couple of times, I could not think of anyone less suited to the position of Mayor of London. He's not as stupid as he looks but he is almost that stupid. I can't see him doing anything positive for the vast majority of Londoners.

I don't think any politicians should be elected on single issues. Their primary duty is to all the people in the constituency they represent.

So any mayor who may or may not be good for cycling should first be assessed on whether they will be good for London as a whole.

On that I think there is no evidence (as yet?) that Boris should even be considered a serious candidate.

I don't think Ken has been that bad for London and I imagine he has probably surprised quite a few people. After all we do not appear to be living in the People's Socialist Republic of London and the City hasn't been nationalised!

Ken has been a lot more pragmatic than in the days of the GLC. He has been more aware of what he can and cannot achieve. He has limited success on the Underground because he has been struggling to wrest control from the government. So he went for easier options - the buses and cycling.

I am not a regular bus user but I have found them a lot more useful than in the past. And if that is being funded by people driving into central London, then that is even better. Possibly the closest we will get to that socialist republic! ;)

Ken has done well with the buses.

That's it.........

Yes he has been good for London...hahahaha...bastard puts prices up on public transport in the hope of encouraging people out of their cars?

Yeah, he's been good alright!

We need some other bastard who isnt a socialist and is more concerned with his city than sucking up to some fecking dictators with similar views to him (ie. they hate jews and the wealthy).

he's more megalomaniacal than Blair or Brown or the filthy quangos and committees they foist on us?

if you didn't want a mayor for london than no-one will meet with your approval surely?

I think he's made London better, given a voice to London if nothing else, I think once we get a party man beholden to his party then you'll see all sort of politics and regret not having an independent (small i) and headstrong mayor
I also think that too many people can't see through the way the popular media chose to portray people

Say like the official labour party member and labour candidate Ken Livingstone perhaps
