Brakes and gears

Hi I’ve got a set of xt m8100 brakes and a set of altus 9 speed shifter I’ve been trying to look but not sure if I’m looking rite but I’m wondering if theys adapter so I can combine to one or do I have to buy a new shifter thanks

Am I reading you right? You have xt 8100 derailleurs? These are 12-speed if my Googling is correct. So you're going to need the correct shifters. The Altus ones won't work with them.
On the other hand, if your rear wheel has a 9-speed cassette, you *might* get away with using the Altus shifter with the 12-speed derailleur, but I doubt it.
More detailed answers if you can supply more details about what you actually have. Pics would be good, when you're allowed.

I reckon the Altus shifters might work with a 9 speed cassett, suck it and see.
The proper 12 speed ones are only about fifty quid.
