British/Irish Dialect Quiz in the NY Times

It's pretty much spot on for me (in terms of my upbringing rather than where I live now, obviously).

It got me spot on - born in Taunton, grew up in West Somerset.

I'm from a bit further north (Nottingham), whereas it has me from Northampton.

But I've not lived there for 30 years; Belfast, Middlesbrough, Dewsbury - which might explain things a bit.

It had me in Hampshire, slight south west from where I grew up in Surrey.
Basically a generic southern accent.

I confused it. It thought some of my answers were odd. Not surprising really considering my parents were Irish and i wasn't, and i only came to the UK when i was young. I think i broke it.

They wanted me to pay a pound before I took the quiz. I kept my pound.

I was brought up in Oxfordshire and my parent spoke RP, okay, yah?

Born & raised Londoner, I appear to be more of a South coast sort of a chap:

It had me firmly in the Thames Estuary, which is understandable given that my parents hailed from East and South London respectively, even though I grew up solely in the Home Counties. But once I took the extended questions part of the test, it placed me somewhere around Bournemouth for some reason - not sure where that came from.

Funnily enough (for me anyway) the key indicator for me was the game of "tick".

I guess it was conjoined with some of the others which placed me firmly in Liverpool, but I was a bit surprised that it was the most obvious trait.

Spot on for me too - from Preston/Chorley and it showed Bolton/Manchester

And for 'er indoors, spot on for London (St John's Wood, don't you know!) but interestingly a mix of Hampshire - she was at Uni in Southampton
