My other half is probably more 'average' than most on this forum. 53 miles sounds about right - 7 or 8 rides in the summer. Despite my best efforts at encouraging her^_^

My longest single ride is 52miles...lol should have tried harder

But it doesn't supprise me the aaverage is so low, for every commuter and keen cyclist there is probably 3 of 4 people with bikes in the garage that they barely ride...a few sunday rides with the family in the summer and thats it for the year.

lol this reminds me of my first ever London to Paris ride. At the first pit stop (25 miles) my mate said to one of the charity staff... "blimey, that's the furthest I've ever ridden". The staff member said "what, your longest ride is only 25 miles??"
"No" he said, "i mean cumulatively".
PMSL she thought he was joking but he wasn't ha ha.

Apart from myself, Mrs V, mother in law and the guys at LBS I don't know anyone (apart all my CC cybermates) who have anything more than a rusty BSO that doesn't move one year to the next..... I reckon Mrs V just doing a 6 mile commute a day does 1500 miles a year.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
A café stop a couple of years ago comes to mind - the young woman behind the counter asked how far we'd come: 'Oh, about 30 miles or so' replied my friend. 'What! In ONE day!' was the incredulous response ........

"The richest 20% of the population also travel furthest by bike – 82 miles per year, over twice as far as people from the poorest 40%."

Damn! the poor are so lazy(!)
Now ther was me thinking it was because us poor old souls up her in the Hyndburn/Rossendale area did not do as much cycling due to all the hills we have to climb up,lets face it our flat bits are either up or down, now where all those rich folks live it seem to me to be so much flatter that I think my milage would shoot through the roof lol.
