The sweat alone has not caused it. As above, it is likely an object made of mild steel has scratched the stainless steel spokes causing contamination. Rust will then begin the process leading to the failure. Sweat falling on the contaminated area may speed this up, but would not cause it without the scratch and initial contamination in the first place.
