My dad used to be incredible territorial about the space outside our house, even though we had enough room on our driveway for our own cars. If a neighbour parked there, he'd be grumpy and hold it against them. And GOD FORBID anyone used a couple of inches of our driveway to turn round. There'd be hell on!

I'm glad to say I've not inherited this trait. I think it's all part of the unceasing madness of our car culture.

Anyway, I digress.

I think the OP should have a polite word to find out his neighbours intentions, which may well be innocent. Forget all these 'get your own back' type suggestions. There's nothing more wearing than having a long-term feud with neighbours.

I park on my drive but while doing some building work i had a delivery of ballast due early morning so i parked on the road over night . The drive had plywood covering it so the 5 ton of ballast could be tipped on that . Next door got home late and as i had taken " his space " he blocked my drive way .
The next morning i blocked his car in with 2.5 ton of ballast to the side of his car and 2,5 ton in front of it . A huge tree stopped him reversing . It took me nearly a week to move all that ballast

Presumably, he thought you wouldn't need access to the driveway that night because it was covered in plywood awaiting 5 ton of ballast, and therefore wouldn't mind him using the space. He must've underestimated your childishness.

In between here and there
You should try my road - lots of two and three car houses not enough space. The thing that really gets on my tits is the reserve parking deliberately taking up two spaces and then when they get the call (no doubt made whilst driving) they go out and wait to move the car to let the other one in. I have great childish pleasure in parking right outside the main culprits house on a Sunday and with cycling to work etc it can be more than a week before it gets moved again. Some of the residents must literally wait looking out of their window and when a space is available they go and move their car 50-100 yards just to be outside their house. Or they will circle for ten or 15 minutes waiting for a park in the street rather than walk 5 minutes from where there is parking. Weirdos!

There isn't enough parking space for all those with cars on my street either. And it has been asked of me why I park in the street when I have a garage. But that is used for much more important things like bicycles, tools, unused furniture, etc. There's even a load of water filters stacked on one side which were going to Ethiopia, but it turns out they're not appropriate. Now, I couldn't leave that stuff in the street could I?

My late father lived next door to a family of taxi drivers they used to box his old rover in bumper to bumper with two of there taxis he would go round and ask politely if they could back one up and let him out tbey just laughed and told him they would move them when they were ready ,I called round by chance and found he had been sitting in his coat for a hour waiting to go out so I went and knocked next door and asked what the problem was the big lardey head of the house told me to get off his property before they threw me off ,I phoned my brother straight away and we fetched ourbuilders pickup and tranny van and parked them bumper to bumper either side of the taxis ,I then took my dad to my sisters and left the truck keys there ,then went back to wait for the fireworks there were now 5 vehicles nose to tail imobilised in the street mr taximan was going nuts threatening allsorts said he was losing buisness cos he coudnt use his motors he then threatened to call the cops,I told him that was a good idea cos then we could discuss his bullying of a old man living alone.I went inside and waited and about 10 minutes later hesent his son round to knock on the door with ahalf hearted apology and could we please move the trucks I told him to send his old man round to sort it out and he eventually came round and promised it woudnt happen again and things had just got out of hand ,we never had any more problems with him .he was just feeble minded bully

We had something similar happening on a regular basis, but sorted it through official channels. We approached the planning dept of the council and explained what was happening, and were they aware he was using his domestic residence for commercial use. Now he has his taxis based out of a couple of old lock ups.

I don't know if anyone parks outside my house, the perimeter of my grounds is too far away to see properly.
I knew a reasonably well known, rich bloke who, after his divorce and subsequent leaving of his family estate, confided in me that in his new house, was the first time he'd ever had neighbours.

Over a decade ago, after a relationship breakdown, i lived in a forest in the middle of Norway - a large forest. My nearest neighbour turned out to be another englishman. We bumped into one another in the 'local' shop once and exchanged pleasantries. They still talk about it around those parts.

Edit: There was space to park, hence no neighbourly conflicts. Edited to keep the thread on track
