Bury council, have sent out an email to those one their cycling email list saying that they are entitled to bid for funding from TFGM for the provision of cycle parking facilities. Judging by the maximum of 15k Im guessing it will be Sheffield type stands.

If anyone can think of any locations in the Bury (Gtr Manchester) area ideally on adopted areas where bike stands would be useful if you list them here I will forward them on. Hopefully they'll do better than this one...

The cycle stands are fine, what isn't so great is the fact that they're located on a side ally out of the main areas, backing onto a crappy car park, which wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't put an advertising board right in front blocking the stands from the view of the cctv camera right ahead. They couldn't have created a better hideyhole for thieves if they tried!

Ha! We have virtually the same set-up in Ashton, tucked in an alley between rows of shops, right at the edge of the retail area so it is hidden from view. I wonder if they were specified by the same person while working for different authorities?

And they wonder why we shake our heads at them. It wouldn't surprise me if the stands pre-date the billboard and cctv. In fairness just across The Rock there are some open naturally surveilled racks. But that's not the point. I'm just sore because i got told off for locking Betty up to the back of a bench after refusing the pictured stand and not spotting the other!

I'd have said at three or four points along The Rock, as that's the main thoroughfare of the town? Perhaps also one down by the Vue cinema entrance as there's plenty of open space there
