TALC!

I had none in the house, but I will try it!

It's sooo frustrating when you can see people struggling and you know how to make the job easy yet they won't accept your advice. I've lost count of the number of times I've posted on cycle forums suggesting the use of talc as a rubber lubricant for fitting tyres.

I always genuinely appreciate the advice I've been given on here, but I regret posting this thread. I guess I let emotion get the better of me. The tone of at least one of the replies has been pretty hurtful, so I'll be taking my leave of this 'fun and friendly online cycling community'.

You're coming across as a bit wussy Hip Priest.:stop:. So you've got a few wheel problems with your new bike, some people have had new bikes nicked, some people fall off bikes and they're never the same again,be grateful it's just a small problem!

I was just in a bad mood, and got further wound-up when I was basically accused of starving my children to buy a bicycle.

I know. I've lost family members and I've been through health issues, just like anyone else. These things dwarf any problems caused by a troublesome wheel, but we don't always think rationally when we're wound-up, do we?

I can't help much with the tech advice but I certainly sympathise with buyer's remorse, I have had quite a lot of that over the years, usually cameras or PDAs (before I had responsibilities!)

Problem is that we look forward to the purchase, then once the money has been transferred to a physical item there is a high expectation, directly in proportion to the length of time you have waited/pondered/saved up etc.

If something then goes wrong with the purchase, expectation is replaced with guilt and disappointment, and a desire to revert to the pre-purchase position.

Anyway, pleased that it is fixed now, and at least with a bike the remorse is reduced somewhat by the fact that you will be recovering your outlay gradually by reduced fuel costs over time (can't do that with a camera or PDA ^_^)
