Hi all,
Got a question which might sound a bit stupid but I've never had to buy new tyres for my bike.
On the rim of the current tyres is says the are 26 - 1.95, does this mean when buying new tyres they must be of the same spec i.e. 26 - 1.95? What do these numbers mean?

Thanks,

The 26 means that the tyres are (nominially) 26inches in diameter. The 1.95 means that they are 1.95 inches wide.

Buying replacements you'll need to get 26 x 1.95 or 26 x something similar.

As always Sheldons Website has the definitive reference - see http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html. The table toward the bottom suggests what size tires ought to be interchangable if you know the width of your rims. (Your current 26x1.95 tyres are ~50mm wide).

Double check on Sheldon's site before you part with your dosh though....

Because bizarrely 26 x (number expressed as decimal) IS NOT THE SAME DIAMETER as 26 x (same number expressed as a fraction)
