One thing that I did not know though and that is that what you must learn is not set. I thought you'd have one day doing tacho law, loading/unloading. And another day doing driving safely/defensively/fuel saving and that this was set. But no all you have to do is five days and you have your card for five years.
I thought the similar, that by booking a bank of Saturdays I expected there to be different groups doing different modules each day, but that's not the case where I first went.

As I said you could do tacho 5 times and still get your card. So that'd be 35 hours, (7x5), of the same course content day after day

Wouldn't look good to a prospective employer either IMO.

The place I'm talking to now offers this set up;

We have the following 3.5 hour courses with 26 possible course combinations to choose from.

Mix & Match to suit your business

 1. Customer service
 2. Fuel Efficiency
 3. Driver Health & Wellbeing
 4. Digital Tachograph
 5. Drivers Hours
 6. Driver Health & Safety
 7. Usery Compliance
 8. Conflict Resolution
 9. Driver Disability Awareness
 10. The Meridian Access to All
What gets me though is the DSA brought this bu!!shoot training in, yet they haven't set a standard suite of training courses to cover it. It's upto each accredited training centre to wrtire their own course and then get it passed for use by the DSA before they can offer it out to drivers

It's even better that foreign drivers can come and drive here without needing it...... that's how much of a money making scheme it is
Not a trucker Angry Blonde but I do have my class 2 from H.M Forces days & I was a bus driver for years after I left.

Anyway my point is that foreign drivers & especially the French just wouldn't accept this bollocks, every port & terminal would be blocked for weeks until the authorities said "sorry, your right, we just thought you were all dumb truckers so had a dabble at a bit of light hearted theft from your wallets".

Bus drivers are having this same CPC scam forced upon them too, only companies with unions are paying tje fees.

I have a class 1 licence, but haven't driven an HGV of any description for over a year.
I am not sure if I will bother doing my CPC, as £300 is a lot to fork out if I'm not going to use it. I would like to drive again, but there is not a lot doing workwise around here, so I've been doing other things.
The thing is though, what are the chances that the employment situation will improve after September? I am thinking that a lot of older guys past retirement age might just hang up their keys rather than bother with CPC..

What if you hold a PCV AND HGV licence? Do you have to do separate CPCs for each category? Nothing would surprise me ......

It wouldn't surprise me either, but I would doubt they'd be that stoopid*

*don't quote me though.
What I'm thinking here is I might be as well doing my PCV licence, and the CPC for that would do for my HGV.. Another string to the bow as well. Might make some enquiries.

Do you have your PSV and HGV licences already? If not then the CPC is not part of getting your licence, it's another 35 hours and £? on top of all the licence costs.
I only have HGV.. But, I was thinking about going for my PCV anyway, and as a new licence holder I would have to do CPC for that. It would kill 2 birds with one stone, sort of.
Quite fancy driving a bus; all that self loading freight appeals! But then again, pallets can't moan about my driving, the weather, the price of bread, etc..

I know what you mean, but as I say you'd still have the CPC cost on top of the licence cost, (or built in depending on package taken of course).

It surprised me that despite only doing my HGV licence last year they never pushed the CPC aspect, wish they had because my boss paid for my licence but know I've got to pay for the CPC, if they'd pushed it I might have been able to wangle it all in together and not pay for anything ;)
I was thinking this, the driver CPC that you have to do in order to take you PSV license, would this count towards the 5 yearly CPC for your HGV...?
I think it does.

Joking aside, but yes you can, you can have it on what ever subject you like, you dont have to adhere to the list. Which makes it even more of a mockery to the whole process IMHO. Speak to your training provider and they will arrange it. For example we had a days "training" on the safe operation of vacuum tankers, the fact that the trainer had no idea how they worked or how to operate seemed to be regardless. But hey ho, it counted towards the overall total DCPC hours and the lunch was rather nice....:hungry:
