What are you using & how are you cleaning the lens?

Does the mark only appear when using the zoom?

it is more noticeable hen using the zoom
From the centre out, or does the mark follow any cleaning pattern?

I'd say a hair too, but it also put me in mind of one of those wiggly little thunder bugs.
will I ever get it back together after I have dismantled it
Having done that with a Powershot s30, I'd say your chances are slim. I did get mine back together but for some reason it didn't work, even though it did before I put the final screws in. There are a lot of tiny microswitches and tiny circuits and screws. If it's beyond economic repair, then have a go but be prepared to fail.

I'd say after 24,000 pictures you've probably got your money's worth. With all this kind of technology the - doubtless regrettable - reality is that fixing is really not an option. Chuck it and get an at-least-as-good substitute off ebay for £20.
