What are you using & how are you cleaning the lens?

Does the mark only appear when using the zoom?

Hair inside the zoom lens or on the sensor would be my guess.

IIRC an Ixus doesn't have swappable glass like a DSLR, but zooms aren't airtight and crap can easily get inside.

It's probably also more noticeable when using small apertures I'd imagine. That shot's got quite a depth of field to it...

That looks like a classic dust on the sensor kind of mark. Is it definitely aperture related, and not just more noticeable on lighter backgrounds?

Having done that with a Powershot s30, I'd say your chances are slim. I did get mine back together but for some reason it didn't work, even though it did before I put the final screws in. There are a lot of tiny microswitches and tiny circuits and screws. If it's beyond economic repair, then have a go but be prepared to fail.

I'd say after 24,000 pictures you've probably got your money's worth. With all this kind of technology the - doubtless regrettable - reality is that fixing is really not an option. Chuck it and get an at-least-as-good substitute off ebay for £20.
