i find it more of a problem passing joggers who insist on wearing headphones and are unable to hear a bell or a shout. zig zagging along the towpath. every group of users will have a grumble about another group. we mostly respect the others right to use the towpath / canal. but the towpaths are getting so busy now

Thanks. Do you need a day ticket on that stretch? What fish do you catch in there? I heard there are some decent tench.

Oh, and something else; has anyone ever seen a fisherWOMAN? I think most women are probably much too sensible to spend whole days staring at water.

There's one that fishes on a stretch of canal I use. I always say hello but she continues to ignore me. In fact most fisherman along the canal do. Everyone else says hello, cyclists, runners, and boat folk are super friendly. Sea fishermen are friendlier in my experience. I think a lot of people go fishing because they don't really want contact with humans. Fair enough I suppose.

Yes. In France. Women formed a third to a half of the anglers that I spotted canal/riverside in Brittany and along EV6.
