East or West ?

I meant I stay there as in I go there, (I live in Balloch (Loch Lomond))...... I used to Volunteer at Clic Sargent House in Prestwick, so I genuinely only visited (stayed) by the coast.

The airport and the railway are all I need really (which makes Dalmellington a pain as they have a small narrow gauge railway).

Aaah, more or less the Gateway to the Highlands
The Kilpatricks(Loch Humphrey) and Mugdock are fast becoming my favourite places to MTB.
There is just so much of it !!! .And one trip to Humphrey did not scratch the surface.Epic though.
Anyway Doug,we will be lynched if we derail the thread any more
Nice talking to you ^_^

Acht, have you seen the 'Post to 100' thread??

I'm used to it, don't worry

Doug, before I sign off,I am sorry to hear you have/had(hopefully the latter) leukemia.

It took my brother in 1990(Acute Myeloid) and my father last year(Same) last year.
My best wishes to you,and i'm sorry to end our discussion in such a sad note .
Take care

Not at all, these things happen. I had Chronic Myeloid (unusual in young people).

I was on Glivec for 10 years, but that only woked so far, so I was put on to Nilliotinib, and that brought my levels right down to almost undetectable levels, so I am off treatment now, but am still monitored each month as it was a new drug, so they do not know what the long term effects of being off it will be.

There are quite a few places on my regular rides with mismatched spellings/pronunciations. Trottiscliffe (pron: Trosley); Wrotham (pron: Root 'em); Meopham (Mep 'em) pron: Ardingly (Arding - lye)

They may even have been mentioned up-thread. I haven't read it all.

My sister has encountered someone who so named their child, and pronounced it phonetically. When my sister gently suggested that it was more usually said "shu-vawn". the hapless parent admitted to having only ever seen it written down, but liking the look of it enough to name the child sye-oh-barn.
My Gran, who carried on working into her late '70s, used to get confused by an employee called Sean. She said "I can't remember his name, and it doesn't help me when I see it written down either."

Perhaps if she'd Seen it or been Shown it.

My Mum used to work with young families. She told me that one young Mum presented her small child and my Mum looked at the form and saw the child's name was Hugh. As is usual she asked the Mum for the child's name to which the young Mum replied (phonetically) "Hugg-h"
