Im 62 now and have ridden my age 13 times this year, all part of the metric century a month challenge.

VERY impressive. That’s quite incomprehensible to me…..🙏

Miles cannot be done unless moving!

Costa Clyde.
This is the first year whereby I need to ride in excess of 100km to "ride my age in miles". My best effort this year so far has been 63.5 miles, so failed by half a mile to cycle my 64 years (to be fair, I was only trying to do 100km, and succeeded with that). I might have a go at it before the "summer" ends. Been the worst summer in memory though, so need to see. While all you south/east UK residents have been sweltering and running out of water, us north/western folk have had 1 good week in July, and the rest of the summer has been a complete washout. Bad, even by our low expectations; and running out of time to improve now.

It dawned on me that I could add half an hour onto my forum ride on Saturday to achieve my 'age in miles' ride.

I will see how it goes. I might get my pal to drop me off 9 km up the Burnley Rd to make up the difference. It is an easy ride back from there - about 50 metres of draggy ascent, but then about 100 metres of nippy descent.

Decided to go for one today whilst up at daughters dearest in Fife. 72.29 miles a
long the NCN one. Rode from daughters to St Andrews then followed to Loch Leven then retraced and a loop to get miles in. Some very narley roads and a fair bit of gravel which was entertaining on 26mm slicks. My arms are more fatigued than my legs.

I keep coming back to this thread but because all my rides are usually punchy shorter ones, typically 30-50 kms, there's no way I'm going to ride my age in miles. I'm 58 so that would be 93kms!! That is some ask for me.

That is until this morning! I picked out one of my usual 40ish kilometer loops and did it twice, with a shorter local loop tagged on the end just to get me to the magical figure.

Half way through I was toying with adding an extra few kilometers on to get me to the 100 mark, but I started feeling it towards the end so jibbed on the 100.

So I've joined the illustrious club. Now where's that ride double your age in miles thread!!

Well done!

I suspect that I will not ever do that again! I did it multiple times up to my early 60s but I have slowed down a lot so long rides are losing their appeal, since I don't enjoy riding in the dark.

Maybe just one last time, at mid-summer, somewhere flattish, when I might manage to get round between sunrise and sunset?

I've been pondering whether I could possibly manage double my age in miles. It's unknowable whether I'll be able to even do another "age in miles ride" by next year (I live in hope) but since I've managed it twice this year, with a mileage of 110 on the last one, a large part of which was off tarmac, it could be feasible. A mostly road orientated route with not too many hills would make it more likely. I would have to be able to do that 110 miles plus another 38 miles to double my age.

I don't have much trouble in riding at night, but making the night part happen early on in the ride when I'm fresh and on familiar roads, say by starting at 1 am, would allow the majority of it to be done in daylight, and be back home before it got dark again.

The summer months are draining away increasingly quickly. I would have to do it fairly soon, if it's going to happen. To bias things in my favour, preferably mid week, not too hot, preferably dry, and with a slight headwind when I set out, so with an out and back route I could hope for a little wind assistance on the return leg. Speedy I am not, but I'm good at keeping on keeping on, and the Rans recumbent is well suited to this kind of ride.

Well, it's a plan. I feel quite positive about it, if the time and the aforementioned factors coincide.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
2x my age in miles would be a few km over 200. So a 200k audax. I've not done one of those since before Covid.

I think I could probably manage one, provided the terrain was friendly, But it would be painful! I'm not sure I want to.
