Can you shed some light on sheds?

Looking to either buy or build a man cave at the bottom of the garden for my treadmill and turbo trainer. Ideally a 10x10 structure, with some sort of insulation (for winter) and one opening window for when in there training.
I have looked at summer houses and the cost is astronomical (because it has a pretty facade). Sheds tend not to be insulated,so do i buy one and do an "upgrade" to it?
Anyone made or bought something similar ...... I figured a few hundred minds would be better than just mine for ideas

I would imagine, from seeing NT work on his house, that it wouldn't be too tricky to insulate a shed. Built battens out from the walls, fill between them with that loft insulation that comes in rolls, cover with sheets of something - thin ply perhaps?

Or maybe do something with Kingspan?

How about this? A rotating garden sphere!

My 8x12 when bought by it's previous owner was built with a thick floor, and he later added a chip-board skin on the inside.

No insulation other than that, but even then it would produce a lovely crop of tomatoes as it's very warm inside without the heater on  The beauty of a skin inside is the ease of which you can add power conduit and sockets wherever you like. INC a wifi booster so you have porn youtube to watch too.

Mine was wired by a pro a few years back, all up to standard inc the mains cabling sunk into the path.

**Technically B&Q call it "Oriented strand board"

It might be worth checking the reviews on that one. Best price does not always mean best. But it depends on what you want to do with it of course.

I built my man shed last year and use it as an office and hobby space. It was about £900 for a 16 by 12 medium quality construction. It cost another £500 ish to insulate with 2" expanded polystyrene in walls, under floor and in ceiling. Walls were then skinned with ply.

Its a good solid shed. Warms up fast and holds heat. If you want a space that is more than just storage this method will get you there.

It was digging out the mud root filled bank and pouring concrete foundations that nearly killed me. If going for a smaller shed a few post holes would suffice .

Good luck.

I'm shedless at the moment and having come from a 4 shed garden :becool: it means there's a fair amount of tat in the garage. Think I'm going to build a bespoke timber frame one. Soon.

I wouldn't get too excited about insulating it. I've got a 12' x 12' which I use for the turbo, and although the only form of heating is two 60W bulbs, even in the depth of the cold weather I found that I was down to the semmit within about 10 minutes.

DIY out of breeze blocks, 2nd hand window and door, mono-pitch roof and concrete base, 100mm kingspan. You should get change from £600 and have something that would deter thieves.
I suppose you can get the wood at trade prices (or less ).
Although one spends in excess of £10m/year on wood it would be wrong to exploit one's position for personal gain. Unfortunately. I was forced into buying some timber from B&Q a few weeks ago, I worked the price back into £/m3, I nearly passed out - what a rip!

Insulating would be good for working in it. I find even in the depth of winter on a turbo in my detached garage, I would need a fan on me to keep cool. Sweating buckets despite ambient temperature only being around freezing.
