interesting poll results with "OTHER" being the most popular choice.
I'd noticed that^_^.
Breakdown cover never worried me when younger, but I eventually thought it might be worth having and chose to go with ETA. They seemed to provide the cover I wanted for £41pa, without me having to pay for things I didn't want. I've never had a claim so....who knows:whistle:

Old thread revival warning.....

Having recently become the owner of a car with no spare tyre, but instead a can of some sort of sealant and a pump, I decided it was time to invest in breakdown cover. Especially since I also have a motorbike which also and not surprisingly, has no spare tyre. That caused me a load of grief about a year ago when I got a puncture (yes, a PUNCTURE!!) about 100 miles from home which would not seal with the tyre repair kit I always carry. Had to get a replacement tyre fitted by a mobile man with a van, who was quite reasonable considering it was a Michelin Pilot Road 4 he fitted.

Obviously I wanted combined cover for car/motorbike, so went with GreenFlag, as last time I tried AA/RAC they didn't offer bike cover (they might do now, but probably at stupid cost from previous experience of both). I reckon £81 per year for non home start cover is pretty good, so I've gone with that. Peace of mind is important too, and of course probably now guarantees I won't need breakdown cover!

Still Autoaid. £59, incl Homebother for both self & wife, irrespective of what we're driving is outstanding - as is the speed of service via local networks (most recently tested only 5 weeks ago when wife flattened an elderly battery whilst sitting outside our local hospital waiting for me.

I agree, but still a stone-cold bargain even at that massively inflated price (how do they make money???)
They claimed they didn't hence the rise, although they were bought out by a venture capitalist company, so the cynic in me thinks they were making money just not enough for the vultures, oh yes I am jealous that I haven't enough money to make more.

But the business I presume is built on the fact most people won't call them out, I've been with them for 15+ years used them only 3 times I think, maybe 4. I had a gearbox go on a MR2 Turbo, a fan belt snap on a Classic Mini, a bottom wishbone snap on a Golf (that could have been scary). On the basis of that I still think they have made a small amount of money off me.

Running reasonably aged vehicles, I'm well in credit, so thanks to you and others for subsidising me! :becool:

I have been with the AA for many years and until last year had reasonable service the few times needed. The last call out was a non functioning speedo about 300 miles from home when I was not impressed. In the past I would have been escorted to an appropriate garage but on this occasion was advised to use a hand held mobile and keep up with other traffic. I knew the problem was probably a faulty sender so a simple fix for anyone with one in stock or who could get one quickly.
