Car tyres - How much ! ! ! !

Is it a good car? My brother is looking for an estate and the Insignia could be an option - he drives an Alpina touring at the moment so knows the meaning of expensive tyres and maintenance generally!!

Is it a good car ? I like it. If you read lots of reviews it seems to say it is not a nice drive but I see/feel nothing about it that is bad. Knocks out about 45/50 mpg, comfy for hundreds and hundreds of miles, plenty of boot space, mahoosive space with the rear seats down, it ticks all the boxes I want/need in a motor. I was looking at a Mondeo estate before I bought it but it wasn't heavy enough......

I'm going to dig out my handbook to have a look at this rating stuff, wouldn't of thought of that myself. Lots of posts with good info, thanks fellow CC'ers !

It's not a performace car by a long way, it's a Vauxhall Insignia...............

This is the problem with so many cars these days - boggo car but they put daft oversized wheels on them in the name of fashion.

Normally get some good deals from etyres, and they fit them at your home. Normally get them to come on a Saturday morning. Just so easy and dont have to stand around at garage

Spot on. You can certainly legally fit a higher rated tyre, but why would you? well, there may be an offer for example, but never a lower rating, at least not legally and within the terms of your insurance as has been mentioned.

Dare i throw in the part worn argument ? My Touran would have cost me £190 for the two front tyres but instead i went to a new and part worn tyre dealer i dealt with in my motortrade days and got two part worn tyres with 8mm tread ( basically new tyres with about 50 miles usage) for a £100 fitted and balanced.Tyres are the same size and rating,good brand and most importantly round,black and with tread !

Mine aren't cheap; the Saab Aero uses 225/45 R17 W tyres and I've just bought a pair of Pirelli P6000's for it for £197 via BlackCircles, with 3% Quidco cashback & Clubcard points.

To be fair, he is a nice chap and drives kind of sensibly. We have no idea what possessed him to buy it, his previous car was a Smart ForTwo Pulse! I think that he was trying to shut his wife up who does like to try to outdo the neighbours.

A very sensible attitude if I may say so. My car wears 245/40 R18 Y tyres. I tend to go with continentals and they set me back £150 a corner. Pro tyre in Slough is good ay matching web prices (remember to take the cost of shipping and fitting into account)
Quick shoot are just that in every way .... Never use them after a couple of really poor balancing issues

So, I need new tyres for the motor. It is running Conti Sport Contact 3, 245/45 18's, W rated on a 96 load. I have just been horrified to see that they are around £230 each ! ! !
After doing some shopping around I have found some budget tyres for around £100 each. I have never had budget tyres before, has anyone had any bad experience that has put you off buying them again ? Or has everything been ok with them ?

Have you tried Falken 452's or the 2013 versions .... Falken 453's .... Excellent tyres, had them on a powerful rear wheel drive saloon with no issues. Good grip in the dry and wet

I've got my last few tyres from mytyres - they have reviews of all their tyres from various motoring publications, including German ones (which I tend to trust!), their prices seem very competitive, and all in all they seem a pretty together outfit. (They also have one of those 'just put your reg in and we'll show you the right tyres' things, which I like, 'cos I'm a bit dense about all those numbers 'n that.)

Falken 452 are a good midrange tyre , wear down quite quick though (on an mr2 turbo ) good wet grip and soft compound
