So from my maths I would say you have a 1 in 232 chance of getting nicked with illegal tyres.

Read an interesting article the other day. The Porsche in which Paul Walker died was 9 years old and still on its original tyres. While they were only 3000 miles old and visibly appeared hardly worn, the compound had 'dried out' (or gone off, call it what you will) and would offer only a fraction of the grip they possessed when new.

They recommend that the caravan tyres are changed every 5 years due to ageing, most caravans do very low mileage.

I know that it's generally acknowledged that tyres wear out quicker on cars that are used on short, stop / start journeys, but I had proof of this a couple of weeks ago.

My car (relatively powerful, rear wheel drive, used mainly for 50+ mile motorway journeys) has loads of life left in its tyres after 12,000 miles. MrsR's Mini One has just had to have 2 new tyres after 11,000 miles of mainly short trips.

It's a joke at caravanners expense. The fact that two of the closest passes I've ever had where from towed caravans has nothing to do with my sentiments. Still, I liked the end bathroom suite on the 2nd one, not too chintzy.

It makes sense. Lots of acceleration and braking (even if not harsh), which is inevitable in an urban environment, will wear out tyres quicker than trundling along at 70mph.

When I bought my Mustang the tyres had virtually no miles on them but were 10 years old. The previous owner had ran the car on different wheels but put the originals back on to sell it.

I replaced them as soon as I bought the car having haggled money off to do so. I got you examine the tyres once they were removed and there was obvious signs of aging that made me glad I had them swapped out.

You would have had to do those sort of trips just to get to the 70mph bit. Far more about size, quality etc.

Well, it depends how close you live to the motorway. I'd guesstimate that 90% of my miles are motorway / A roads, whereas MrsR does 99%* of her driving in an urban environment. Although you may be right about the size (diameter I assume). The same thought just occurred to me.

It'll be interesting to see what your customers say.

I always have the best tyres on, and change well before they are illegal. 4 points that contact you to the road. I even have friends who fit winter tyres, can get expensive but well worth doing.
