Fair enough if leggy, Cat D or the small engine. I thought you were suggesting the 3.0 one you are looking at

My brother was trying to persuade me to buy this! If I had a garage and a functioning left knee to use a clutch maybe (not £4000 tho)

I’d have an SLK 55 as a toy if I won the lottery

2.8i Capri with an after market turbo fitted, although you won't get a lot for £4000.

If it was me and I wanted a nice car for £4000 it would probably be a 530d or an A4 Quattro.

Good shout above on a 225 TT. They will start appreciating soon when all the crap starts being broken and the numbers start reducing. They drive really well, are very well specced and nice plush interior.

The Jag doesn't have style, its a horribly proportioned pastiche of the original XJ6. All of these cars are mass produced tin boxes. They're white goods with wheels.

Try and find the least offensive to your eye and soul, but acquiring actual style might be pushing it for a £4k daily driver.

Does he own it? that would be the only reason I could think why he'd want you to ripped off by so much.

I know where there is a 2005 with 34K on the clock just sat on a driveway going to waste as the owner is only in the country 4 weeks a year, he then hires a car. It's not even standard it's the F1 upgraded model, mine whenever I want to use it, if I tax it (yeah I know it doesn't exist) pay insurance, but I can't afford to run it a 9MPG.

No, I think he just suggested it as a collector model, low mileage, original, proper history. I personally like them completely unmolested, quick enough. Always loved them, I had 3 20v n/a versions, insurance was too much for the turbo

I'm happy with my plenty quick enough and relatively economical VRS DSG Fabia estate  don't drive enough to justify a second impractical toy

For style in the snow it would have to be an early 80's Lwb Landcruiser straight 6 dsl

Straight bruisers go for good money, even with interstellar mileage. As capable as a Landie or Range Roonie, but doesn't break when the driver farts too hard.

Budget £4000.

We have 2 really b.o.r.i.n.g cars, MrsF walks to work and I ride either my cycle or m/bike, so both can go days without moving, together they probably do about 4k miles a year. I bought the 2 cars because I crashed my Cherokee Jeep & MrsF's MX5 on the same day, those were fun cars.........

I want something with "style", economy doesn't bother me, nor do residuals, nor does reliability much, nor does age, I want a car I enjoy being in. I couldn't think of any car I actually want, but then in Skipton today I saw a car and thought "That'd do". Any more suggestions?

Pic not in Skipton today, obviously.

Two crashes in one day? I hear chieftain tanks are quite resilient.

i would say more capable in my experience

i can always remember driving one down the a45 and everything just moved out of its way , it had such road status and i suppose wit hit being white helped a bit

I had one of these for 8 years - still miss it after selling this Spring:

There's one not too far from me, in that colour
I'll have to look at the registration

How about a Jaguar XK8?
According to the cover of the present issue of 'Practical Classics' magazine, they can be had from circa £4K now
We had a XKR for 4 years a while ago (p/x-d in 2012, for the Octavia estate)
That was quit posh, reliable, could summon up 25+MPG on a m-way trip
It had mega-acceleration; 30-70 (in sport-mode & kickdown) was about 4 seconds, so less time on the wrong side of the road
Insurance was about £300 F/C on a limited mileage policy (6.000 - year)
The supercharged engine was producing more torque by 1600RPM, than the (naturally aspirated) XK8 did at its peak!

I take it you mean the 24volt derivatives (forget the 'Series' designation, like this?

I like the FJ's, even though I am a Land Rover man
