I have just been sorting out my Equilibrium and noticed a deep cut in the paint.

Hard to photograph, but doesn’t look like it is into the carbon fibre itself. It is at the base of the fork very close to the wheel hub. No idea how it happened.

Is it too risky to ride? Not going to unless I’m sure, I’ve had enough of accidents.

Thanks.

Personally if you arent sure take it or e mail the photo to a carbon specialist.
If the matting/fibres are intact I would think it's ok but if you arent confident get it checked.

Tis but a scratch. It wouldn't bother me, a tin of Humbrol model paint and a steady hand is all you need.
Cant really tell from the pic but it looks a bit deeper than than so would benefit from filling. When you're at the model shop getting the Humbrol tinlet ask for some " micro balloons ". It's a fine powder you mix with epoxy and acts as a filler. Sand to a level finish. Maybe those small spray cans might give a better finish.

Like you I can't tell much from the photo, but from what I can see I'd be unwilling to ride that till it's been checked and maybe repaired.

I'd be extremely wary about getting acetone anywhere near a critical plastic component. A single drop of acetone could be catastrophic to carbon fibre

It's something that has been used to touch up minor scratches for a long time, I've used it on three or four bikes over the years.
