Didn't we start from Hereford, last time we did Gospel Pass ? I found Gospel Pass to be a much easier climb, than the Devil's Staircase; it was nothing like as steep, though it seemed a lot longer . . . . . . . iirc.

You're not doing a good job of 'selling' this ride. A good salesman would first mention the frequency of pub stops & cake shops . . . . . . . And only then, move on to the matter of doing some cycling. (Note to self - bring extra stash of Bara Brith for LD).
