I have some noisy floorboards that need attention that are under fitted carpet.

As ever, finding someone to undertake smaller jobs in the Lake District is a monumental task.

I have found knee kickers (with adjustable length spikes) online.

Has anyone removed & relaid a carpet with any great success using one?

NB; the carpet will only be lifted in a specific area not in its entirety.

Any shared experiences and tips appreciated.

Thank you.

All the carpet fitters I know moan bitterly that they have knackered knees because of using them.

In the past I have lifted parts of carpet, screwed down floorboards and just put the carpet back where it came from.

I think my knees will be ok. It's only a small area that needs lifting and relaying.

How did you retension the carpet back onto the gripper strips?

I did fit a carpet in a small room without knee kickers, it was fine, the carpet wasn't very heavy or very thick.
It stayed put for years!
Imo, if you just lift a small bit from an already fitted carper @SpokeyDokey, the carpet will fall back in place without much effort.
I would try without knee kicker first, if you are not satisfied then buy one.
Would be better to borrow if possible, because when are you ever going to use it again?

As an electrician I've pulled up my far share of carpets in the past and refitted them mostly without problems. Only times I've had issues is when the original carpet fitter has stretched them to fit as probably a little short. I used to have a cheap stretcher from either toolstation or similar that did me till I gave it away. Just try refitting and shuffling it back, if gripper rods fitted just tuck behind and push it in. I used to use a clean bolster chisel. Good luck.
