I have a big saddlebag that's full of junk, especially at this time of year.
Tubes, puncture kit, tools, camera, lock, waterproof jacket, rainlegs, longs, long sleeve top, windproof jacket (gilet with removable sleeves), gloves, socks, hat, spare back light, spare front light, spare batteries, emergency rations, plus other stuff that fails to get taken out.
If if gets cold or starts to rain some gets worn, or I'll set off wearing some, then remove it into the bag when the day warms up.

Saddle bags are horrid, you wouldnt stick a roof rack on a sports car!!

That said I stick all thats needed in my rucksack whilst commuting, when on a weekend run of up to 40 miles I will stick 1 tube, 2 chain links, CO2 pump and canister and levers and multitool in my back pockets, longer rides I would add another canister and tube and use the saddle bag.
