The only one worth mentioning is the Citroen 2cv they bought in Cyprus (1955-ish) due to its ability to handle the very bad roads.

When we came to England about 5 years later, we drove it across Europe staying in hotels - I can still rembember that trip, especially the very narrow mountain roads with only a row of white-painted stones between us and the sheer drops. The car was loaded onto a Silver City aircraft to cross the channel.

Up until I was about five, my father had a cherished old 1930s Austin Ten. He loved that beast, and spent hours at a time tinkering with it and polishing it. I loathed it. The ride inside stank continually of petrol and exhaust, and I was often nauseous.

I can remember going to Devon on holiday in an original Fiat 500 that my parents had borrowed. There weren't much room in that, but my brother and I had great fun standing on the back seat and sticking our heads out through the rolled back canvas roof!

Mini Cooper S (first car I remember)
Mk1 Escort Mexico
Reliant Scimitar (piece of crap IIRC)*
Mk2 Escort RS2000**
Mk1 Astra GTE
Mk4 EscortXR3i (which I bought off of him - great car until it got nicked)
A red escort (Mk6?)
Audi A3

*For years I thought that a "bugger" was a car component - as in "The bugger's not working again!"
**Always my favourite car - made a great noise, have been tempted to track one down, but I'd probably be dissappointed.

Don't go there Dave, you know it's not a right car.

I dunno....i know you'right mickle ;), but i've had a few Leylands...1.8 Marina Coupe included. The one memory i have of them is...
Rusty and not very inspiring...but as with minis, marinas, allegros, etc etc...they just kept going...and going....and going. You could always keep them going.
The roads were full of crap looking leylands.....but they kept going (that's when they were'nt broken down :biggrin:)

I notice no-one heres dad had a Moskovich xx(xx(;) probably because they came, rusted, broke down, then went so quickly....no-body remembers :biggrin:)

The first car I can remember my dad buying in about 1966 was a 1948 Ford Popular E93A, the sit up and beg one in a dark blue colour. Then he had the next version the 100E, after that a morris minor traveller. Then there was an Austin 1100 that fell to bits, then a mk3 Cortina, then various Fiesta's until he stopped driving two years back.
